Summary:

This traditionally working class area situated in the middle of Brent saw its steady decline halted in the 1980's when public money was invested to rejuvenate its ailing High Street. Now the area has plenty to offer, including a new City Academy, library complex, theatres, studios, swimming pools and sports stadium. Fast tube links also attract young single workers from the City. Whilst prices are on the rise, the area is still a good hunting ground for first time buyers.

Properties:

Willesden boasts attractive 1930's suburban style detached and semi-detached homes as well as older properties, mainly smaller Victorian terraced houses. Willesden Green holds more expensive properties including the large red brick Victorian and Edwardian terraces and flat conversions. The area benefits from its proximity to West Hampstead and Maida Vale with their soaring house prices. Brondesbury Park, more exclusive than Willesden Green, has large, late-Victorian/Edwardian mansions, wide, leafy roads lined with elegant houses dating from the 1930's, as well as more modest 1930's detached and semi-detached properties. To the south, the grim tower blocks of Harlesden are being replaced by new, low-rise flats as private investment takes advantage of buy-to-let opportunities. The better parts of Harlesden attract city workers to its lovely Edwardian and Victorian houses. Throughout the area, there are modern and older developments of purpose-built flats and the grand period houses share the same breathing space as the new build flats and association housing.

Buyers:

First-time buyers, young professionals, and families, forced out of pricey Hampstead and Maida Vale. Similar homes, but at more competitive prices.
