Summary:

An area in north-west London, about 4 miles from the West End and very well served by rail and Underground links. The impressive shopping centre opened in 1998 made good use of old railway land bringing with it new stores, expensive shops, cinemas, and other social amenities. West End Lane now has a distinctly village feel with its trendy coffee shops, smart bars and stylish restaurants which are well supported by the locals. Also a popular destination for a night out.

Properties:

Plentiful supply of properties, from handsome Edwardian mansion blocks, tall Victorian terraced houses, spacious and small conversions, to well kept 2 bed and 3 bed terraces and semis with small gardens. The smartest streets tend to border Hampstead 'proper' where large detached houses, some with 7 bedrooms, can be found. The Maryon Wilson Estate, once bed-sit land, now boasts wide streets of gracious properties – red-brick mansion blocks with large communal gardens, purpose-built and converted flats as well as the occasional whole house. A real magnet for young professionals and singles who cannot afford Hampstead's spiralling prices. West Hampstead also has some 20th century council blocks as well as modern flat developments.

Buyers:

Affluent young professionals as well as families out-priced in neighbouring areas. Big rental market.
