Wandsworth area guide
Postcodes:
SW18
Boroughs:
Wandsworth
National Rail:
Clapham Junction, Wandsworth Town, Wandsworth Common
Summary:
Wandsworth in south west London is a respectable suburb, taking in Balham, Tooting and Putney. Over the past fifteen years it has become an increasingly sought after location for families as property prices in neighbouring Clapham and Fulham spiral upwards. The Wandsworth Common area attracts city professionals and their families, attracted by the larger solid homes, gardens and good schools. A major downside is Wandsworth's inadequate transport links with the city and traffic still presents a problem.
Properties:
The most popular and sought-after locations lie in the roads between Wandsworth Common and Clapham Common. Here smart, well looked after Victorian and Edwardian terraces predominate. The larger period homes are off East Hill where substantial detached Edwardian houses and conversions command a high price. Close by is the relatively trendy enclave of the Tonsleys boasting pretty little Victorian cottages popular with young professionals. Major developments of rejuvenated warehouse conversions and smart apartments are plentiful along the riverbank, where 16-storey luxury tower blocks can be found. There are a number of well-maintained council estates, as well as low-rise council flats, now largely privately owned.
Buyers:
Middle class families seeking larger homes. Popular with professional singles attracted to riverside flats.
