Summary:
St John's Wood in the city of Westminster, was one of London's first informal garden suburbs. It is now a premier postcode and strategically placed for just about anywhere in the world. The MCC and Lord's Cricket Ground has its home here and the green open tracts of both Regent's Park and Primrose Hill are within easy reach. The smart High Street is lined with designer clothes shops, smart cafes, restaurants and bars.
Properties:
Home to the big family house - property ranges from grand Regency villas, large Victorian terraced houses and elegant 1930’s mansion blocks of flats in leafy settings to 1960's apartment blocks and modern purpose-built flats. St John’s Wood Terrace boasts an attractive enclave of 3-storey multi-coloured Victorian houses whilst some of the grand luxury apartments can be found off Wellington Road. The pricier properties are those overlooking Regent’s Park and high security gated properties are popular homes. St John's has its share of council estate housing; to the west lie a number of council housing estates, most of which are well maintained, and home to working class and racially mixed communities.
Buyers:
Most of NW8 is populated by middle class professional people, wealthy families and the international set, renters as well as buyers. There is a significant Jewish population. The Grand Union Canal passes through the area and there are several canal boat communities.
