Summary:

Southfields and Earlsfield are in the London Borough of Wandsworth. A traditionally residential area, the property market here has been transformed as improvements in transport links have brought the City, the West End and Canary Wharf within easy travelling distance. Schools and family facilities fuel a strong property market for middle class buyers.

Properties:

Southfields' main residential area is the Grid - orderly streets in parallel formation boasting spacious period 3-4 bed terraced houses, some converted into flats. The area bordering Wimbledon Park is mostly made up of neat well-maintained streets of late Victorian/Edwardian terraced houses. Larger period homes can be found nearer Wandsworth Common. Other houses and flats in Southfield cover a variety styles - 1930's semi and detached houses in quiet streets, neo-Edwardian semis, modern mews houses, private developments of 2/3 storey blocks of flats filling up open spaces and warehouse and ex-school conversions to buy or rent. There are also the 1960's early 70's council built estate homes, most of the smaller ones now being privately owned. Earlsfield's residential areas boast Victorian and Edwardian terraced and semi detached houses and well maintained estates of council housing, many of which are privately owned. Mid-war terraced cottages line quiet, tree-lined streets. There are smaller late Victorian terraces as well as purpose built Edwardian maisonettes. New build flats and modern town houses on infill sites are popular with first time buyers, and there are secured gated schemes of mock-Victorian houses

Buyers:

Southfield is popular with families, young professional couples, those already on the property ladder but moving up and is home to a significant community of professional white South Africans. Earlsfield is a good hunting ground for first time buyers and is slightly cheaper than Southfields with professional couples and families seeking better value for money than its more expensive neighbours such as Battersea and Clapham.
