Boroughs:

National Rail:

Charlton, Woolwich Dockyard, Plumstead, Woolwich Arsenal

Summary:

Plumstead is next to the River Thames in the borough of Greenwich and a large part of the suburb is given over to commercial and industrial use. The High Street and surrounding areas are slightly run down in places. The nicest housing is around Plumstead Common. Its close neighbour Woolwich has strong military connections and is home to the Royal Artillery and the Royal Woolwich Arsenal. Woolwich is mainly a residential area, with a good deal of green open spaces and is home to mostly families. Charlton in SE7 has its share of industry and commerce, particularly between Woolwich Road and the Thames. The hilly area south of Woolwich Road is mostly residential with pretty streets and open spaces.

Properties:

All three areas offer a mix of middle class and working class accommodation. There are streets of small Victorian terraced housing as well as council housing estates. The larger and more attractive Victorian semi's are around Plumstead Common. Suburban living boasts 1930's terraces, semi-detached and detached housing in quiet streets. There are some new-build apartment blocks of one and two bed-roomed flats, as well as warehouse conversions, the most expensive having a river view. The hilly area to the south of Woolwich town centre is the most residential. There are pretty streets of suburban housing, good parks and several blocks of council flats. Charlton in SE7 also has a good mix of private and public housing. It has a pretty centre and has retained its village atmosphere. The industrial areas tend to be closest to the river. Housing is attractive Victorian terraces, with 1930's family homes as well as many blocks of council flats.

Buyers:

A mix of middle and working class families. Improvements in transport links needed as well as a good deal of regeneration money.
