Summary:

Both Maida Vale and Little Venice are highly sought-after areas in which to live and this is reflected in the price of property. This wholly residential, prized pocket of London is less than a couple of miles from the city centre.

Properties:

Maida Vale boasts wide boulevards filled with a rich source of flats, large and small, old and new. Many of the elegant Victorian mansion blocks have large shared gardens to the rear. Family houses are rare; no streets of Victorian terraced housing, although a small number of new and refurbished mews properties and town houses are available. There are several tower blocks of council flats to the west of Maida Vale itself and also along the Westway. The area around Little Venice is particularly popular and remains one of London's hidden gems. Particularly sought after are the gracious cream stucco terraces and villas, and rows of red-brick mansion blocks filled with expensive and spacious conversions. Predictably, canal facing properties are the most expensive. This is a tranquil and sophisticated area popular with wealthy middle class professionals, although there are some council housing estates interspersed amongst the elegant town houses.

Buyers:

Predominantly white and middle class, but a number of lower income families. Flat dwellings rather than family homes attract buyers and renters, both British and those from overseas. Young professionals, and city workers show a keen interest in Maida Vale with its rich stock of elegant housing and Little Venice is a leafy oasis much sought after by those who can afford its expensive price tag.
