Summary:
Barons Court, West Kensington and Hammersmith are conveniently situated west of the capital just a few miles from the West End and on a direct route for Heathrow. Despite the flyover and office tower blocks, Hammersmith is a very popular and attractive residential area with a bustling town centre and a pretty river frontage. The young and affluent are attracted to the borough for its prestigious arts scene including the Lyric Theatre, Apollo and the Riverside Studios. Good transport links – the tube, M4 and airport.
Properties:
Flat seekers paradise. In Barons Court, tall Victorian houses line the narrow streets, ideal for conversion into mostly 2 bed apartments. Victorian mansion blocks offer 1, 2, 3 as well as 4 bed-roomed flats. Late Victorian and 1920/30s mansion blocks can also be found although there are still a few surviving whole houses in the Victorian terraced streets. West Kensington has areas of respectability equal to its neighbour, Fulham. Thames-side industrial blots on the landscape have been swept away and replaced by luxury new developments providing beautiful riverside homes. Victorian cottages can still be found together with the larger Georgian houses overlooking the river. Away from the river grand white stucco terraces with pillared arches, and large 4 storey Victorian converted houses predominate in closely packed terraces, some elegant, some shabby chic, some just shabby. Hammersmith has a large amount of council housing around the busy town centre, including high rise flats, but there are also many pleasant residential streets of private blocks of purpose built flats.
Buyers:
Globetrotters, city commuters, couples and families, as well as young professionals seeking a rental opportunity. First time buyers who cannot afford other neighbouring areas such as Kensington and Chelsea.
