Summary:
Gone are the days when the residents of Chelsea looked down their noses at their Fulham neighbours. The development of Fulham's long river frontage has given the area a distinctly Chelsea feel, attracting many similar types of people. Its central location close to the River Thames, large open spaces like Putney Heath and the abundance of good quality terraced housing ensures its desirability by London's wealthy middle classes - Fulham is now one of the city's more sought-after post codes as a place to live.
Properties:
Rows of solid, spacious late-Victorian terraces are the main housing feature. There are some Victorian/Edwardian/1930's flats and many flat conversions. Renovation is the buzz word, many houses boast luxury interiors, and there is much new-build and conversion on infill and river sites, including Imperial Wharf. Several developments are gated for additional security, Hurlingham Square close to Hurlingham Park and south of Fulham Road is an example.
Buyers:
Highly residential, favoured by professional middle classes and their families. Buyers and renters are young professionals, though the sprinkling of council estates in the area ensures a general mix of people. Cared for, family atmosphere.
