Dulwich area guide

Boroughs:
Southwark
National Rail:
East Dulwich, Herne Hill, North Dulwich, Sydenham Hill, West Dulwich
Summary:
Dulwich has been described as "one of the tidiest and most charming corners of London". With three major private schools, Dulwich College being the most famous, the allure for professional people and their families is apparent. The area also has country cottages, vast mansions, and some flats. On the outskirts there are Victorian terraces, converted flats and ever increasing new homes. At the moment, transport links are limited - although less than a 20 minute train ride from London, there is no underground station and bus services to the city are poor.
Properties:
In Dulwich old village you will find spacious open areas and cared for, highly desirable, Georgian family homes which come with a huge price tag. In contrast, East Dulwich, often considered not as up-market as Dulwich is dominated by its Victorian terraces and is now experiencing an increase in popularity with young couples with the development of its busy shops and restaurants. Being south of the river, East Dulwich manages to stay affordable although there are few housing estates or apartment blocks. West Dulwich has less room for homes, as it boasts a golf course, allotments and school sports grounds.
Buyers:
Dulwich Village, East Dulwich and West Dulwich are all very desirable areas in which to live. The estate agents tell us that 95 per cent of buyers are families and/or professional people.
