Crystal Palace area guide

Postcodes:

SE19, SE20, SE26

Boroughs:

Bromley, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark

National Rail:

Gipsy Hill, Sydenham, Anerley, Crystal Palace, Penge East, Penge West

Summary:

SE19 feels like a spacious postcode, looking down upon Croydon to the south and the City to the north. It's about seven miles from central London and covers the areas of Norwood, Upper Norwood, Gipsy Hill, Crystal Palace and Norwood New Town. The district can be easily summed up by the words: greenery, gardens and good views. The actual Crystal Palace was a wrought iron and glass building (originally erected in Hyde Park) to house the Great Exhibition of 1851. Upper Norwood and Crystal Palace could become very sought after locations as buyers look for more value away from the centre.

Properties:

The many splendid Victorian mansions are now mostly broken down into flats, with rows of smaller terraces and blocks of flats dispersed in between. There are inter-war properties and many good quality new homes as well as one and two bedroom flats. Grand Victorian housing and modern purpose-built flats lie alongside a number of council properties. Crystal Palace offers a mixture of styles, which seems to mirror the diverse character of the area. Spacious Victorian properties offer popular flat conversions and larger family homes, these dominate the housing around the popular Church Road and Westow Hill.

Buyers:

Young professionals and families looking for more space, as well as loyal local people who don't want to leave the area.
